Studio Lighting Project - 2012

Media Group International was contracted to supply and integrate lighting Equipment for Studio 7 at Al Jazeera sports channel.

The project included design, supply, installation, commissioning, testing and training for the complete lighting system fit-out. Studio 7 is 900sqm with a total height of 10m and which AL Jazeera Sports will use for the Spanish league. The studio consists of a number of sets and it was equipped with 120 self-climbing hoists. The system also includes more than 220 LED lighting projectors carried by 170 manual strength adjustable pantographs. All of LED lighting projectors are equivalent to 2K tungsten format.

The LED lighting projectors have been selected to follow on from Al Jazeera’s recent policy to use energy-efficient solutions. Other system components include DMX and hoist control systems, dimming solution and complete curtain track around the studio. MGI were responsible for all electrical power, mechanical and data cables installations as well as testing, commissioning and training.

The main components of the project were from Desisti & ETC. The project was scheduled for completion within 8 weeks from being awarded, which was a challenging timeline that MGI met.

On Air Graphics System - 2009

Media Group International delivered a complete state of the art on Air Graphic System.

Al Jazeera Sport Channel, one of the region’s leading sports channel, covering top events nationally and internationally, chose Media Group International to design, supply, install, configure, setup and manage training requirements for a complete turnkey solution for an on-air graphic system.

With its channel partner Vizrt, Media Group International was able to provide the most cost effective and user friendly solution, providing a complete, integrated and professional on-air graphics system that fulfilled Al Jazeera Sport’s all on-air graphic needs ensuring the most efficient workflow between all Jazeera Sport Channel team members involved in creating, manipulating and playing the graphic air for news, programs and live events.

Digital Compression System - 2013

Media Group International partnered with Ericsson to supply and integrate a Digital Compression System.

The requirement was for a new, single compression platform with updated technology and functionality that will replace the existing end of life/end of support platform(s). The previous system(s) generated a total of 3 Transport Streams for up-linking onto satellite. The new system supports these three transport streams and caters for additional fourth Transport Stream.

The system was designed with full redundancy, dual hot swappable power supplies where applicable, patch panels to bypass faulty equipment and taking into account Al Jazeera’s operationally preferred architecture.

16:9 Switching System - 2013

Media Group International supplied and integrated a 16:9 Switching System for Al Jazeera.

The project moved Al Jazeera Arabic Channels current infrastructure setup of 4:3 SD aspect ratio format to be 16:9 SD infrastructure. It included changing the aspect ratio format for the whole broadcast chain from acquisition, distribution, archiving, production, and transmission to the new format. During the design and implementation phases the project took into consideration the plan of AJA migration to HD-SDI infrastructure.

The solution included; video processors with aspect and frame ratio convertors, video monitors, multi-viewers, and glue items. The main components of the system are from Snell, Sony and Miranda. All system components were hot swappable with hot standby units. The system included 2 years warranty in addition to 3 years free software upgrades for all equipment. The entire infrastructure complies with 3G-SDI standards as per Al Jazeera Network requirements.

NETIA’s Radio-Assist™ 8.1 Automation Software - 2013

Media Group International coordinated Qatar Radio’s full migration to Radio-Assist 8.1

Media Group International migrated Qatar Radios main live channels on to the Radio-Assist™ 8.1 digital audio software suite, overseeing the copying and conversion of all media, along with associated metadata into the NETIA software system, without interrupting operations and without the loss of any of the broadcaster’s 275,000 elements and assets.

With this shift, Qatar Radio is now able to bring all radio production and broadcast functions onto a single platform. The Radio-Assist 8.1 software supports coordination, scheduling, and live broadcasting, as well as an archive of more than 300,000 hours of programming.

The NETIA software, which Qatar Radio also uses as a robust disaster recovery solution, replaces an existing radio automation product and gives the broadcaster a more extensive and unified solution that addresses the entire production workflow.

MBC

News Studio - 2013

Media Group International supplied entire technology for the newly designed studio.

The MBC Group, which has ten TV channels and a number of online platforms, engaged Media Group International to provide MBC Cairo with an entire News facility consisting of a broadcast control room/gallery, a central apparatus room, an audio studio, a broadcast studio, a Master Control Room, a Newsroom and various editing and production facilities. The company was also responsible for the entire IT infrastructure and the installation of all power requirements.

The project included some of the latest ground breaking equipment, including cutting-edge Grass Valley LDX-80 studio cameras that adopt cmos technology as opposed to traditional CCD. At the heart of the system is a full Avid Newsvision production system, complemented by the latest Viztr on air graphics. Other technical highlights include a powerful Ross live production switcher, a Trilogy Broadcast communications system, a state of the art video wall and a Studer All-In-One Vista audio mixing console, the first of its kind to be installed in Egypt.

Avid News Upgrade - 2012

Media Group International was contracted for the supply, installation and commissioning of the AVID news upgrade.

In an effort to produce class leading news programs for the Emirates and Gulf region DMI turned to Media Group International to help transition to a technology that not only improved the look of the program but provided an improved total workflow for the facility.

The new file based workflow with products from Avid and Vizrt enables the DMI’s team to get news on air quicker and in very high quality, utilizing 8 main editing machines and two as a support. Users can more efficiently, locate and manage the content online, greatly improving speed and with no additional ingest, content can simply be moved across the network.

The AVID system is connected with digital archive that stores the media in digital format on LTO5 drives rather than analogue tapes. An increased number of ingest channels means there are no delays getting news into the system.

Bahrain TV

Virtual Studio - 2010

Media Group International was contracted to supply, install and commission a Virtual Studio System.

Media Group International managed the supply and installation of a complete virtual studio system and associated broadcast equipment’s for Bahrain TV.

The virtual studio consists of state of the art Tracking System from Orad-IVSM. Infra-red cameras monitor the camera position in the studios and graphics from processing units are keyed by Ultimatte Chroma Keyers along with camera signal.

The system also includes three quantities Sony cameras Model HDC-1450 with one of the cameras on Jimmy Jib. The CHROMA BOX (with Infinite curves) is used as Virtual Studios. The lighting is from ARRI and most of the Luminaries are Cool Lights. The Vision Mixer is Snell and the Audio Console from Yamaha. Equipment from M/.S Evertz, AXON , Harris and Clearcom are also utilized.

Visual Radio - 2013

Media Group International installed VidiGo Visual Radio for Clouds FM, part of Tanzania’s Clouds Media Group.

Clouds Media Group is a privately owned media house based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Clouds FM is widely regarded as the most popular radio station in Tanzania by the country’s 18 to 35 year olds. Given this demographic, the station wanted to incorporate interactive graphics that could be overlaid onto the video feed of its radio broadcasts and used to enhance its internet presence and Twitter, RSS and social media feeds.

VidiGo’s Visual Radio Solution was the ideal product for Clouds FM. VidiGo’s Visual Radio Solution is created by combining the strength of VidiGo Live, VidiGo Audio Director and VidiGo Graphics “inside”. VidiGo Live works as a video switcher that operates in automatic mode to switch between the different cameras in the radio studio. The VidiGo Audio Director is an extension to VidiGo Live and detects which microphones are used during the radio broadcast, allowing it to make input decisions like a television director. Finally the graphics and text overlays are automatically inserted within VidiGo Live, using VidiGo Graphics software, which makes it possible to superimpose content in a live situation using a station’s own designed Flash application.

5 Master Control Rooms - 2013

Media Group International provided a turnkey solution including installation, commissioning, testing and training for the implementation of five Master Control Rooms and migrated the equipment from the two old Master Control Rooms into the new installation infrastructure in order to support HD/SD/3G systems.

The working areas included the MCR, CAR, and three voice over booths. The new system is based on Grassvalley Maestro MCR switchers with the new Prelude Routing Control system. All equipment can be controlled via the Pebble Beach (Marina system) for Automated and tapeless workflows. The client is now able to transmit seven 3G/HD/SD Channels with each channel having SD Transmission and HD transmission capabilities at the same time. The current system has room for 25% expansion and is fully redundant ensuring 24/7 transmission.

This project is the first fully automated system at Al Kass and the customer was fully trained on the new technology and ready to transmit.

Master Control Room - 2012

Media Group International supplied and integrated Master Control System

Meda Group International was selected to handle the supply and installation of a new Master Control Room system for the Qatar based sports channel Al Kass TV.

The project included the build of two new Master Control Rooms and the migration of the existing three Master Control Rooms to the new location at Aspire Zone. Main components included GV Maestro switcher, Miranda router, graphics and glue items, as well as Sony components.

Mobile Studio System - 2010

Media Group International was contracted to develop a Mobile Studio System
The project for Al Kass a Qatar based sports channel included the complete supply, installation, commissioning and testing of one portable HD/SDI, SD/SDI broadcast quality mobile camera chain. All the equipment was installed in one heavy duty standard 19’’ rack or flight case with caster maximum of 20RU.

The main equipment components where Sony MFS-2000 Video mixer, HDW VTR, Harris Nexio server, Yamaha audio mixer, talk back system from Clearcom and SPG form Trilogy. The camera chain was from TGV-LDK 8000/70 with Canon lenses, Vinten camera tripods and Tektronix wave form monitors. This system will provide the channel with more mobility and the ability to shoot from any location.

Migration to HD - 2014

Migration to HD and revamp of three channels to support the new format and subsequent workflow

State broadcaster Sharjah TV, who recently marked their 25th anniversary appointed Media Group International to manage the stations migration to High Definition. This project also saw the installation of the first ISIS 7500 in the region, with 768 TB total of storage.

Due to the relatively small storage capacity an immediate upgrade was required from 48TB to 768TB, before switching to a higher resolution. The workflow revamp includes a file-based ingest via Vantage Transcode pushed to ISIS 7500, Interplay Central which will gradually replace Avid Interplay Assist, with production using Media Composer and using Web Interplay Central chief editors and editors are now able to edit and manage material remotely, News Cutter is used for news ingest and edit and Diva FPD for archiving. Key suppliers for the project include Avid, Vizrt, Cisco, FlipFactory, DIVA, HP and Marshall.

Pearl FM

Radio Station - 2014

Media Group International built an entire radio station for the Children’s Media Network (CMN), the first company in the U.A.E. dedicated to broadcast dedicated children’s content to families in the U.A.E.

The project, which took Media Group International (MGI) just three weeks to complete, involved designing and installing two radio studios and a back-up studio that doubles up as a production facility when it isn’t needed for live broadcasts. MGI also installed server rooms where live broadcast material can be stored for up to 60 days.

The equipment chosen for the new station includes Clyde Broadcast Synergy Master Control systems that have been installed in all of the studios. These are complimented by RCS play out systems; microphones from Clyde Broadcast, Shure and Beyerdynamic; Sonifex delay units and a range of production and control software from various manufacturers.
